Oscar and Shoshana Trachtenberg Prize for Service

This award recognizes a tenured faculty member for exceptional service to GW, with particular emphasis on voluntary contributions that go above and beyond standard faculty responsibilities and that have a university-wide impact. Faculty, staff, and students may nominate eligible faculty members, and each nomination must be supported by the nominee’s department.

Oscar and Shoshana Trachtenberg Prize for Scholarship (Research)

This award recognizes a tenured faculty member for significant original contributions to research and/or creative endeavors, with the goal of honoring outstanding scholarly achievement as it is occurring rather than years later. Faculty members must be nominated by a fellow faculty member, and each nomination must be supported by the nominee’s department.

Full-time and part-time faculty who have taught at GW for at least two consecutive years are eligible. Faculty may be nominated by a department chair, faculty member, student, or through self-nomination, and all nominations must be supported by the faculty member’s department.

Philip Amsterdam Graduate Student Teaching Awards

This award recognizes GW graduate students with at least three semesters of teaching experience, based on student and supervising faculty evaluations as well as the quality of their academic work. Graduate student teachers may be nominated by any GW student or faculty member, and instructional assistants are also eligible if their responsibilities have included a teaching role.

Office of the Vice Provost for Research Faculty Awards

These awards recognize faculty members who have made significant contributions to research and scholarship, demonstrated promise as early-career researchers, or supported the academic and professional development of students and postdoctoral scholars in research and scholarly activities. Full-time faculty members, including research faculty, are eligible for these awards.

Writing in the Disciplines (WID) Distinguished Teaching Awards

These awards recognize faculty members and graduate student teachers each year who demonstrate excellence in teaching and designing Writing in the Disciplines courses.
