Collective Bargaining Agreement

The George Washington University is in a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the part-time faculty elected union, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 500. Many part-time faculty are covered by the CBA; exceptions are outlined in Article IB and Article IIIA of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The CBA governs the terms and conditions of employment of part time faculty covered by the agreement.

The CBA has a clause that requires part-time faculty, as a condition of continued employment, to either: (1) become a union member and pay dues; (2) pay an agency fee without becoming a member; or (3) obtain a verifiable exemption as listed in Article III, or exclusion as listed in Article I, in the CBA.  Part-time faculty covered by the agreement may pay dues or agency fees to the union directly or may authorize the University to deduct the amounts from their monthly paycheck using the SEIU Local 500 online authorization form.

Part-time faculty and University administrators are encouraged to read and understand the CBA. Terms and conditions of employment include appointment, reappointment, compensation, and evaluations.

Part-time faculty with questions may contact the Director of Part-Time Faculty Administration at 202-994-4329, or the union directly at 301-740-7100 or [email protected].
